Mob stones life convict to death

Life convict Maha alias `Adhiradi’ Maha (42) of Sathuvachari, Vellore, who was out on bail, was chased and stoned to death by a rival gang in Vellore on Saturday night.

Despite being on bail, Maha allegedly tried to kill G.G. Ravi, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam member by stabbing him during a religious function on Arcot Road on Saturday evening, police said.

Ravi was rushed to the hospital immediately. But the supporters of Ravi chased Maha and rounded him up near the Dharmaraja Temple ground and stoned him to death, according to police.

The killers were seen beating and stamping on the dead body immediately after the murder.

All shops in the vicinity downed their shutters as rowdy elements went about threatening passing vehicles and passers-by.

According to sources there was prior enmity between Maha and Ravi ever since G.G. Ramesh, businessman and brother of Ravi was murdered allegedly by Satheesh alias Kuppan, a close associate of Maha, police said.

Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under the control.

Police told newspersons on Sunday that Maha who was lurking at the religious function stabbed Ravi and two others and tried to escape.

Police arrested six persons in connection with the murder.

Ravi was discharged late in the night. Two others who sustained injuries in the attack are undergoing treatment in the hospital.
