Akhil Akkineni’s much awaited debut film Akhil, directed by V V Vinayak and produced by Nithiin, is finally in the theaters next to you. Read the review to know how did the young Akkineni scion score with his first attempt.
Story :
Akhil revolves around the back story of JUA, which is considered by the tribes of Africa as a sacred entity that saves the world from destruction. Akhil (Akhil Akkineni) and his love Divya (Sayesha Saigal) were like any of us. But how did a normal guy like Akhil falls in the pursuit of JUA and what role does Divya play? Does Akhil hold a connect with the whole concept of JUA? you got to untie the threads along with the highly stuffed commercial elements in theaters.
Plus :
One of the biggest assets of the film is Akhil himself. The young hero makes a striking debut and is surely set to carry the Akkineni legacy forward. Akhil is exceptional with his dances and has performed his action sequences also quite well. Expressions wise, he needs to get better but his dialogue delivery and body language are fine.

Sayesha Saigal looks pretty and is definitely a find for Tollywood. She has amazing screen presence and is set to become a top star in the future. Being a trained dancer, she impresses big time in all the songs. Credit should also go to the way songs have been lavishly shot and choreographed.
Akhil’s introduction fight and the first song have been executed quite creatively. First half of the film is racy and moves at a brisk pace. Concept of the film is decent and the first fifteen minutes are impressive.

Minus :
One of the biggest drawbacks is V V Vinayak’s direction. One can easily say that Akhil is his weakest film till date. The way he has narrated the film and executed some key scenes during the second half is pretty bad. Second half loses steam and the entire African episode and climax looks jaded and out of place.
Graphics used are below par and spoil the mood of the film completely. The black leopard fight, under water episode and climax plane fight have been hampered by some poor VFX work. After setting up the film well till the interval point, Vinayak brings in some silly comedy scenes and drives away the seriousness in the plot.

Technical Aspects & Analysis :
Can say Akhil has gone wrong at various levels as the story line by Veligonda Srinivas itself is very risky. The lavishness is visible in the cinematography, sets, locations and action sequences. However, all this seems unimpressive in the tale that is rather boring and outdated in today’s times and tedious to watch. The songs barely had a purpose. After a point you end up wondering how the so called star director like V V Vinayak can be so silly and still impress the stars in the industry with his absurdity. If this film fails to impress audience, it is Vinayak who needs take the complete blame as one can see a clear failure of execution. Akhil is nothing but taking audience for a royal ride and underestimating their knowledge. Painfully rhyming one liners by Kona Venkat and ‘supposed to be funny’ cliched histrionics of comedians were another level. The scene where Akhil chases a panther makes you want to tear the screen apart. Graphics, we fall short of words.
Verdict :
On the whole, Akhil is a decent launch pad for the Akkineni scion. He is exceptional with his dances and gives an all round performance in his debut film. Interesting premise and some good songs are basic assets. But a below par narration, outdated second half and over the top graphics spoil the mood and makes this film just an average affair. Watch it only for Akhil Akkineni’s impressive show.
