Story:

Adapted from the French flick, Sleepless Night, Thoongaavanam has the same plot as that of the original with minute changes in order to suit the Indian audiences.

Kamal Haasan works for the NCB and is quite popular among his contemporaries. His life takes a U-turn when he lands himself in a soup while handling a bag full of hard drugs.

As a consequence, a night club owner who also happens to be a drug dealer kidnaps Kamal's son. While Kamal tries to retrieve his only kid, he faces yet another crisis.

Without solving the newly emerged problem, he will not be able to get his son back. How Kamal untangles various difficult knots in order to save his son forms the rest of the story.

Performances:

Kamal Haasan delivers what is expected from him. But stars like Prakash Raj, Kishore and Sampath have shone throughout by coming up with believable performances.

Special mention goes to Trisha, for the actress after taking up a challenging role has delivered the goods. Rest of the cast including Asha Sarath have done their respective roles quite efficiently.

Plus Points:

Kamal Haasan’s performance is the major plus of this movie
Action sequences are the heart and soul of this film
First half of this movie is quite interesting and engaged the audience
Ghibran’s Background music is neat and soulful

The running length should have been increased

Analysis:

The screenplay and direction of director Rajesh is quite interesting. He narrated the movie in a good pace. Dialogues are perfect and suited the theme of the movie. Special mention should go to the stunt master for composing some high voltage action sequences. Background score by Ghibran is decent. Editing is OK but some scenes should have not been chopped off.
